about

"THE LOST MECHA TOOLS is both a statement of purpose for twofold and a collaborative exercise with a group of likeminded artists. Three openers lay out the 'mecha' sound that twofold has forged in recent years, chopping between metal-strewn percussion, tightly coiled loop exercises and juke-y grooves. Remixes from Riteskeeper, regresssion, and Zvrra fill out the pack, but it is Houston-based producer secat’s 'GEARSHIFT' that shines among the bunch. Weightless and propulsive at once, 'GEARSHIFT' is packed full of detuned blips, ha crashes and staccato percussion, each coagulated in the track’s expert use of silence and space." —Gabe Meier for Bandcamp Daily, Best Club Music May/June 2022

"Twofold’s Lost Mecha Tools EP, released in May, sounds like a field recording from inside a spacecraft hangar bay. Reminiscent of Jlin’s skeletal footwork sound design, the track is driven by chaotic 808 percussion and decorated with an overwhelming tapestry of sci-fi sound effects. Alarms blare; drills screw bionic arms into place; snares clatter like steel [...] It’s aural world-building: club music meant to transform the venue itself into a strange, unfamiliar place." —Jude Noel for Bandcamp Daily, "The Rocky History of Gorge Music"

THE LOST MECHA TOOLS is Atlanta producer and EAT DIS core member twofold’s hardest-hitting release yet, a scorched blast of robotic club tracks that further define the new “mecha” genre the artist has helped pioneer alongside originators Zvrra and Tank Jr. These three songs show twofold at their best, firing on all cylinders in the signature style that’s caught the attention of both Bandcamp Daily and dance music obsessives across the globe; from the floor-filling, tom-heavy groove of “DRUMLINE MECH” to the whirring factory hums of “Like Clockwork,” THE LOST MECHA TOOLS stakes its claim as a pivotal touchstone of a sound that’s primed to overtake the world stage. The compilation also features remixes and original mecha tracks from a who’s-who of EAT DIS label heavyweights including Secat, Zvrra, regresssion, and the mysterious Riteskeeper, whose RITESKEEPER I EP served as the first documented mecha release. From start to finish, THE LOST MECHA TOOLS overflows with metallic precision and raw club energy: it’s sure to be an essential release of 2022.
